Your Parents May Have Used Us: Why Old-Fashioned Service Still Matters
There’s something we’ve been thinking about lately at Bellamy’s.
We’ve been cleaning carpets in the Redlands since 1981.
That means there’s a very real possibility that your parents may have used us.
They may have called Bellamy’s to clean the carpets in the house you grew up in. They may have booked us before a family Christmas, after the kids made a mess, when they were moving house, or when the carpets simply needed bringing back to life.
More than four decades later, we’re still here.
A lot has changed since 1981.
There were no Google reviews. No Facebook recommendations. No online booking systems. No text-message reminders. You certainly couldn’t ask an AI assistant to find your next available appointment at 10 o’clock at night.
A local business survived for a much simpler reason:
You did a good job, treated people properly, charged them fairly—and hopefully they called you again.
We think there’s still something pretty special about that.
Some things shouldn't change
Technology has transformed the way businesses operate, and Bellamy’s has changed with it.
Our equipment is better. Our cleaning methods have improved. Customers can find us online, read reviews, contact us digitally and organise their service far more conveniently than they could in 1981.
But the basic standard shouldn't change.
When somebody invites us into their home, they should know who they're dealing with.
They should know what they're paying.
They should receive the service they were promised.
And when the job is finished, we should be able to look at it and be comfortable putting the Bellamy’s name against it.
That's what we think of as The Bellamy’s Standard.
It isn't a fancy cleaning product or marketing slogan.
It's simply the standard we believe a local service business should operate to.
Old-fashioned service. Modern convenience.
We don't believe keeping traditional service means operating like it's still 1981.
Quite the opposite.
Bellamy’s is combining the things we believe were good about old-fashioned local businesses with the convenience customers rightly expect today.
That's why we're investing in technology that makes dealing with us easier.
You shouldn't have to leave three messages just to find out what carpet cleaning costs.
You shouldn't have to wait until Monday morning to enquire about an appointment.
And you shouldn't have to fill out a form and wonder whether somebody will eventually call you back.
We're working towards making Bellamy’s available to customers around the clock, with our booking assistant Willa able to help answer enquiries, provide pricing, check available appointments and organise bookings—even when we're out working.
The technology may be new.
The philosophy behind it isn't.
Make things easy for the customer.
We're not trying to be the biggest
This is another area where Bellamy’s is changing.
We're deliberately operating as a smaller local business.
Our focus isn't on racing from one inexpensive job to another or trying to service half of South-East Queensland.
We're concentrating on the community Bellamy’s has been part of for decades: the Redlands.
It means appointments are limited, and selected availability is released around our operating schedule.
But it also means we're able to concentrate on doing good work rather than simply doing as many jobs as possible.
From carpet steam cleaning and upholstery cleaning to tile and grout cleaning and pest control, the objective remains straightforward:
Do the job properly.
More than four decades of Redlands homes
Think about how much the Redlands has changed since 1981.
New suburbs have appeared. Families have grown up. Houses have changed hands. Children who once watched Bellamy’s clean their parents' carpets now have homes and children of their own.
Yet here we are.
There's something we love about that.
Small businesses don't get to stick around for more than four decades simply because they have a good logo or run clever advertisements.
Ultimately, they need customers who are prepared to call them again—and tell somebody else about them.
That's why the words Since 1981 are becoming an increasingly important part of the Bellamy’s brand.
They're not there just because 1981 sounds impressive.
They represent the thousands of local homes, customers and families that have allowed Bellamy’s to continue operating for all these years.
The Bellamy's Standard
As we move into the next chapter of Bellamy’s, you'll see us talking more about The Bellamy’s Standard.
For us, that means straightforward pricing, professional equipment, good communication, respect for your home and taking pride in the finished job.
It also means continuing to improve.
We'll use better technology. We'll make booking easier. We'll continue improving the way we communicate with customers.
But we don't want to lose the principles that allowed a little local service business established in 1981 to still have its name driving around the Redlands 45 years later.
Because sometimes progress isn't about replacing everything that came before.
Sometimes it's about keeping the good parts and making everything around them better.
And who knows?
Your parents may have used us.
Maybe one day, your kids will too.
